- To be eligible for payment of out-patient counseling expenses the abuse must have occurred within the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and have been perpetrated by a staff member, volunteer or member of the clergy of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
- Victims/survivors of sexual abuse who currently reside within the Archdiocese of Philadelphia but whose abuse was perpetrated in another diocese or by a member of a religious order should call the victim assistance program in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for assistance. We will work to connect you with the appropriate religious order or diocese.
- The Victim Assistance Coordinator can provide counseling referrals.
- All counseling expenses that meet the eligibility requirements are approved for a period of 12 months.
- There is no limit on the frequency of counseling sessions. Your need for counseling is determined by you and your therapist.
- Victims/survivors are not required to utilize private insurance for payment of counseling expenses. You may use your private insurance and be reimbursed for out-of pocket expense.
- Victims/survivors must seek treatment from a licensed therapist to be eligible for reimbursement.
- Victims/survivors will be reimbursed for mileage or other reasonable travel costs associated with out-patient counseling.
- Victims/survivors will be reimbursed for child care costs associated with outpatient counseling at the rate of $10 per hour for one child and $15 per hour for more than one child.
- Victim/survivors must ensure that each year their therapist completes a “Mental Health Certification Form.” This form simply asks the licensed therapist whether or not the therapy provided is necessary as a result of the sexual abuse suffered by the victim.
