What guides the process? There are two sources of guidance: Canons 460-468 of the Code of Canon Law and the Instruction On Diocesan Synods from the Holy See. In accord with these helpful and practical guidelines, the Archdiocese will be joined in a common purpose to seek the best way to bring about the Gospel mission in this new millennium.
How will the process work? The formal organization of the Synod comes under the direction of Cardinal Bevilacqua. He will be assisted by a General Preparatory Commission which will prepare a Directory for the Synod, outlining the policies and procedures for conducting the whole Synod process. The General Preparatory Commission will establish several other synodal commissions. These Commissions will organize all of the materials already available and that from the Archdiocesan wide consultation. They will select priorities from the consultation and develop this information into proposals for study and review in the formal Synod sessions. The results of these sessions will be recommendations to be presented to Cardinal Bevilacqua for his approval.
Who will be involved? The Synod will gather ideas from the faithful across the Archdiocese. These ideas will be presented to the synodal Commissions which will research their topics and offer their work to the members of the Synod who will discuss the topics and prepare final recommendations for the consideration of Cardinal Bevilacqua. |
