HIV/AIDS Ministry Program

“I have come that you may have life, and have it more abundantly” (John 10:10)”

Statement of Purpose

The AIDS Ministry Program was established in 1989 by Anthony Cardinal Bevilacqua to extend the compassionate presence of the Church by providing prayerful support, education, and pastoral support to those infected and impacted by HIV/AIDS. The program is supported by the Annual Catholic Charities Appeal and donations.

The U.S. Bishops’ document, "Called to Compassion and Responsibility: A Response to the HIV/AIDS Crisis,” offers the guiding principles for the Department. The Bishops wrote, "Discrimination against those suffering from HIV or AIDS is a deprivation of their civil liberties. The church must be an advocate in this area."

Information and Referral: Staff can provide referral information regarding support services.
